| Description | Supports short and long term postdoctoral research in Japan. Research can be carried out in Japan, the United States, and/or other countries. Projects must include work with colleagues and resources in Japan and propose a single, continuous stay in Japan from 3-11 months or 12-24 months. | |
| Award Amount | Monthly stipend of $4,529 for fellows with a PhD and $2,502 for fellows without a PhD. A settling-in allowance of $2,502 for fellowships over 4 months. | |

| Citizenship | Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. | |
| Requirements | For 12 to 24 months: open to scholars who have received doctoral degrees within the last 6 years or are about to receive one. For 3 to 11 months: open to scholars who received doctoral degrees within the last 10 years. All applicants must have proof of affiliation with an eligible host research institution in Japan. | |
