AMERICAN SOCIOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION (ASA), MINORITY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM


Deadline   1/31/2013 
Description   The fellowship supports the development and training of sociologists of color in mental illness and disorders and related co-morbidities (i.e. alcohol and drug abuse). The fellowship is awarded for 12 months and may be extended for up to 3 years. The MFP is primarily designed for minority students entering a doctoral program in sociology for the first time or for those who are in the early stages of their graduate programs.  
Award Amount   Stipends of $18,000 per year plus tuition. 
Disciplines   Social Sciences. Limited to sociology, especially related to mental health issues. Applicants must be enrolled in (and have completed one full academic year) in a PhD Sociology program.  
Academic Level   Prospective/Current Graduate Student.  
Citizenship   Fellows must be citizens or non-citizen nationals of the United States, or is a permanent resident and have in their possession an Alien Registration Card.  
Requirements   Member of one of the following minorities: Black, Latino, American Indian, Asian American, or Pacific Islanders. Open to students accepted to or enrolled in PhD programs, that intend to pursue careers on sociological aspects of mental health issues.
