SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION, SMITHSONIAN ASTROPHYSICAL OBSERVATORY PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

Description   Predoctoral fellowships designed to allow students to do thesis research at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Fellowships are awarded for a period of 6 months or more dependent on project. 
Award Amount   Stipends for the current academic year are $30,228. Funds may also be available for relocation, travel, and other expenses. 
Disciplines   Physical Sciences. Astronomy, physics, and planetary sciences. Applicants in theory, observation, instrument development, or laboratory experiments at a university or college are strongly encouraged to apply. 
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   No citizenship requirements.  
Requirements   Applicants must be currently enrolled in a university degree program; must have completed preliminary coursework and examinations and be ready to begin research at the time of the award. Similarly, the candidate must secure the sponsorship of an SAO advisor and the permission of her/his university's department head in order to be given full consideration by the Predoctoral Oversight Committee.
