SMITHSONIAN ASTROPHYSICS OBSERVATORY (SAO), PREDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS

Description   Fellowships offered to allow students from institutions throughout the world to do part or all of their thesis research at SAO. SAO's facilities have a variety of telescopes and instruments, as well as 200 scientific staff available as research advisors. Fellowships awarded for a period of 6 months or more dependent on project. 
Award Amount   Stipend of $30,228. Funds may also be available for relocation, travel, and other expenses. 
Disciplines   Physical Sciences. Atomic and molecular physics, geophysics, atmospheric physics, the solar system, solar physics, planetary systems, stars, galaxies, extragalactic astronomy, and cosmology.  
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   No citizenship requirements.  
Requirements   Applicants must have completed preliminary course work and examinations and be ready to begin dissertation research at the time of the award. Applicants must have sponsorship of an SAO advisor and the approval of their Department Head to conduct thesis research at SAO.
