NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH) DIRECTOR'S EARLY INDEPENDENCE AWARD


Deadline   12/30/2012 
-deadline for letter of intent; 1/30/2013 - deadline for applications.
Description   Approximately 10 awards per year in support of exceptional investigators who wish to pursue independent research directly after completion of their terminal doctoral/research degree or clinical residency, thereby foregoing the traditional post-doctoral training period.  
Award Amount   Stipend up $250,000 per year for five years.  
Disciplines   Life Sciences. Health Sciences. School of Public Health. School of Nursing. Fields related to doctoral/research degree or clinical residency.  
Academic Level   Postdoctoral Scholar.  
Citizenship   Open only to U.S. citizens.  
Requirements   Applicant must have received terminal doctoral degree within 12 months prior to application submission date or completed medical residency within 12 months prior to application submission date. The expected date to complete all requirements for medical residency or doctoral degree within the following 12 months. Underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, persons with disabilities and women encouraged to apply.
