MELLON-COUNCIL FOR EUROPEAN STUDIES (CES) DISSERTATION COMPLETION FELLOWSHIPS IN EUROPEAN STUDIES

Description   The fellowship is intended for late-stage doctoral students, who have completed most or all of their dissertation and have a reasonable expectation of completing the dissertation within the fellowship year.  
Award Amount   $25,000 stipend plus assistance in securing reimbursements or waivers for up to $3,500 in eligible health insurance and candidacy fees.  
Disciplines   Open to all fields. European Studies. The Council funds projects related to Europe broadly defined, including areas such as Turkey, the UK, Russia and Eastern Europe, and Iceland. In the past, the Council has even sponsored research pertaining to colonial topics, as long as Europe is a central component of the project. If you are still unsure if your research is eligible, contact the Council directly for clarification. 
Academic Level   Working on Doctoral Dissertation.  
Citizenship   No citizenship requirements.  
Requirements   Applicants must be ABD, must be enrolled at a higher education institution in the U.S., and can have no more than one full year of dissertation work remaining at the start of the fellowship year as certified by his or her dissertation advisor. The applicant must also have exhausted the dissertation completion funding normally provided by his or her academic department or university, and he or she must be working on a topic within or substantially overlapping European Studies. Awardees are required to a) publish in the Council's semiannual publication, "Perspectives on Europe"; b) present a paper at the International Conference of Europeanists, held annually; and c) participate in several digital and in-person career development seminars and/or workshops.
