| Description | Fellowships are being offered to support writing dissertations in East European studies. Focus of program is the development of expertise in the United States needed for broad knowledge and analysis of ongoing developments in this critical world area. Two fellowship categories including Research Fellowships for use in Eastern Europe to conduct fieldwork or archival investigations, and Writing Fellowships for use in the United States to write the dissertation after research is complete. | |
| Award Amount | Stipend of up to $18,000. | |

| Academic Level | Working on Doctoral Dissertation. | |
| Citizenship | Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. | |
| Requirements | Currently enrolled graduate students who will have completed all requirements for the doctorate except the dissertation by June 2012 may apply for one-year, non-renewable support to complete the dissertation. Applications should be for work on Eastern Europe: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Kosovo/a, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia. | |
