| Description | Approximately 10 Doctoral Fellowships for periods ranging from 4 to 12 months are available for doctoral candidates to conduct research in Japan. | |
| Award Amount | Competitive stipends and benefits offered to all fellows. | |
| Disciplines | Humanities. Social Sciences. | |
| Academic Level | Working on Doctoral Dissertation. | |
| Citizenship | No citizenship requirements. Different deadline applies to applicants who do not hold American citizenship, permanent residency and Americans with permanent residency in other countries. | |
| Requirements | Must have completed all work for the PhD except dissertation. Sufficient proficiency in Japanese to pursue research. Students with letters of affiliation are given priority. Projects must be related in substantial part to Japan. | |
