| Description | Approximately 5 research fellowships are offered to postdoctoral scholars, researchers, and professionals who wish to conduct research in Japan for periods ranging from 2 to 12 months. At present, funds available for the Research Fellowship Program are significantly constrained; applicants are encouraged to propose shorter periods of research. Priority will be given to relatively junior scholars and researchers, and to those with less research experience in Japan. | |
| Award Amount | Includes a monthly stipend of Y370,000 or Y430,000 plus travel expenses, enrollment fees, insurance, and allowances for settling-in, research, and dependents. | |

| Citizenship | No citizenship requirements. | |
| Requirements | Applicants must have successfully defended their dissertations prior to the time of application. Should have sufficient proficiency in Japanese to pursue research. Preference is given to scholars with letters of affiliation from Japanese Institutions. Projects must be related in substantial part to Japan. | |
