Center for Embedded Networked Sensing (CENS) Summer Program
CENS, a National Science Foundation Science & Technology Center, is developing Embedded
Networked Sensing Systems and applying this revolutionary technology to critical
scientific and social applications. Like the Internet, these large-scale, distributed,
systems, composed of smart sensors and actuators embedded in the physical world, will
eventually infuse the entire world, but at a physical level instead of virtual. The CENS summer program provides undergraduates the opportunity to gain hands-on research
experience in CENS labs; to work with CENS faculty, staff and graduate students; and
to participate in research, professional development and social activities with other
CENS undergraduate scholars. Program includes: stipend, housing, meal allowance, GRE
test preparation, workshops, seminars and poster presentations and networking activities. |

IPAM
Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS)
The Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (IPAM) at UCLA
sponsors the Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS). The goal of RIPS is to expose undergraduate students to an industrial research
project that requires the application of mathematical principles to solve real-world
problems. Each student team is guided by a faculty and an industrial mentor who provide
guidance with methods and data analysis as well as preparation of reports and team
presentations of findings. Industrial sponsors represent high-tech industries, national
laboratories, and nonprofit organizations. |

Physics and
Astronomy Summer Program
The University of California, Los Angeles, will offer a research experience summer program in
Physics and Astronomy in which undergraduate students will work with a faculty mentor, as well
as other professors, researchers and graduate students on a research project. All interested
students are invited to apply for this 10 week summer program. Participants will gain direct
experience by working in ongoing experimental or theoretical research programs in plasma and
beam physics, solid state physics, astrophysics, high-energy physics and biophysics. All
students will attend weekly seminars on current in research in physics, machine shop and
physics GRE preparation workshops. The experience will culminate with the writing of a report
and presentation of findings at a closing Symposium. The program includes social events
with participants in other campus research programs, and a camping trip in the Sierras. |
