2008 Postdoctoral Scholars Reception

 
UCLA postdoctoral scholars were honored at the 2008 Postdoctoral Scholars Reception for their important contributions to the interrelated missions of research, teaching, and public service. The reception was held on March 12, 2008 at the Faculty Center.

Of the 931 registered UCLA postdoctoral scholars, 22 were chosen as members of a select group of nominees for the Chancellor’s Award for Postdoctoral Research. The nominees represent virtually every discipline at UCLA, from the basic and applied sciences to the professional schools, the social sciences, and the humanities:

Timothy Bredy (Psychiatry); Steven M. Claypool (Chemistry & Biochemistry); Martin Culjat (Thoracic Surgery); Jerome Darbon (Mathematics); William R. Dichtel (Chemistry & Biochemistry); Luitao Du (Pathology & Lab Medicine); Arne Ekstrom (Neuropsychiatric Institute); Carissa Grace Fonseca (Radiological Sciences); Peter Langfelder (Genetics); Qian Lu (Pediatrics); Yuanbing Mao (Chemical Engineering); Arunkumar Natarajan (Chemistry & Biochemistry); Tara Sophia Peris (Neuropsychiatric Institute); Fang Wei (Materials & Aerospace Engineering); Andreas Wilke (Anthropology); and Jixun Zhan (Chemical Engineering).

Six of the 22 nominees were selected to receive the Chancellor’s Award for Postdoctoral Research -- a $5,000 prize -- for their research accomplishments that show clear potential to have meaningful and enduring implications in their field.

The award and reception were co-hosted and funded by the Office of the Chancellor, the Graduate Division, The Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, UCLA College of Letters & Science and the Office of Research.
