Microbiologist and UCSC administrator Dr. Eugene Cota-Robles dies at age 86
Prominent microbiologist and UC Santa Cruz Professor Emeritus Dr. Eugene Cota-Robles died on September 12, 2012, at
the age of 86. He was well-known throughout the University of California for his tireless work promoting diversity in graduate and
professional school students and faculty. He is perhaps best-known at UCLA for the
Cota-Robles Fellowship, created by the University of California to honor his legacy. Since
2001, 985 students at UCLA have been awarded this prestigious diversity fellowship, which provides full tuition and a $21,000 yearly
stipend during the first four years of graduate study.
