- Standards and Procedures for Graduate Study
Provides detailed information and sets forth general policies regarding completion of degree requirements, master's and doctoral committees, examinations and foreign language requirements.
- Policies for Thesis & Dissertation Preparation & Filing
Is the official UCLA manuscript preparation guide that contains established criteria for uniformity in the physical format of theses and dissertations. The regulations included in it supersede any style manual instructions regarding format. Information on filing dates and procedures, microfilming, and registration of copyright are also included.

- Master's Filing Fee Application

Can only be viewed by faculty and staff on our intranet. Used by department staff to notify the Student & Academic Affairs Office of the results of Oral Qualifying Examination. Students will be advanced to candidacy based on the date the form is received, provided the information is correct and the examination was conducted in accord with the Graduate Council regulations.
- Report on the Final Oral Examination for the Doctoral Degree (iPDF-71KB)
Can only be viewed by faculty and staff on our intranet. Used by department staff to notify the Student & Academic Affairs Office of the results of the Final Oral Examination for the Doctoral Degree (defense of the dissertation).
- Doctoral Filing Fee Application

The Doctoral Filing Fee may be used in lieu of registration if all formal requirements for the degree, except for taking the final oral examination (if required) and filing the dissertation, are met prior to the first day of instruction of the term. Doctoral students may the use Doctoral Filing Fee Application only if they were registered for the previous academic term.

- Master's Advancement to Candidacy Petition

This form may be used to request advancement to candidacy status for the master's degree. It must be filed with the major department no later than the second week of the quarter in which the award of the degree is expected.
- Master's Degree Petition

This petition may be used to request the following actions: Transfer of Credit, Extension of Time for Advancement to Candidacy, Waiver of Registration, Plan Change, S/U grade for Graduate Course Requirement, Change in Mandatory Grading Basis, Unit Deficiency, Application of Units to Concurrent Degree Programs, Partial Completion of Course Sequence, or Application of 500 Series Courses to Graduate Requirements. - Petition for In Absentia Registration

In Absentia status is a form of registration available to academic and professional graduate students undertaking coursework or research related to their degree programs outside of California. Students registered in absentia are only assessed 15% of the combined Tuition and Student Services Fee; and full health insurance fees. - Registration and Enrollment Petition

This petition may be used to request retroactive registration and enrollment and for retroactive changes to study lists.
The Survey of Earned Doctorates (SED) began in 1958 to collect data continuously on the number and characteristics of individuals receiving research doctoral degrees from all accredited U.S. institutions. The results of the survey are used to assess characteristics and trends in doctorate education and degrees.
