UCLA Graduate & Postdoctoral Extramural Support (GRAPES) Database - Introduction |
The GRAPES database catalogs extramural funding opportunities of interest to prospective and current graduate students, students working on a master's thesis or doctoral dissertation, and postdoctoral scholars. It contains information on over 500 private and publicly funded awards, fellowships, and internships. Advanced search options allow users to refine their search by field, academic level, award type, award amount, and other criteria. GRAPES is maintained by the Graduate Outreach, Diversity and Fellowships Office. Most funding organizations require that you contact them directly for detailed information and an application. When 1252 Murphy Hall appears in a listing, applications for it are available for pickup in the Graduate Outreach, Diversity and Fellowships Office. Sorry, we do not mail out application forms. It is important that you contact funding sources as early as possible. Deadline dates are subject to change. Once you have confirmed the actual deadline date, begin the application process as early as possible. Some organizations require application materials, such as reference letters, that take time to prepare. Each organization also has its own schedule for reviewing and funding applications, and you may be required to apply many months before the funds are available. Access the database through the GRAPES Search Form.
UCLA campus based awards are not listed in GRAPES the database. Prospective students should review Financial Support for Entering Graduate Students for information on university awards. Enrolled graduate students should look at Graduate Student Support for Continuing Students. Other Funding Opportunity Databases Community of Science (COS), Illinois Researcher Information Service (IRIS), and Sponsored Programs Information Network (SPIN) databases contain thousands of federal and non-federal funding opportunities. COS, IRIS, and SPIN are services by subscription, and therefore only available to the UCLA community. Access is FREE for those using a UCLA public terminal or Bruin OnLine. NASA's Student On-Line Application for Recruiting (SOLAR) system offers a comprehensive and seachable database of internships and fellowshis at NASA facilities. The Graduate Division offers the services Faculty Fellowship Proposal
Consultants to assist UCLA students and scholars in preparing extramural fellowship proposals. Additionally,
announcements of extramural funding opportunities are available by email through the
Graduate Fellowships LIST. |
