The Chicano Studies Research Center is also able to offer two student research awards of $2500 from the Tamar Diana Wilson Fund. These awards are used to conduct original research projects in the United States, Mexico and Central America on urban poverty and poverty alleviation as they apply to Latinos and Mexican and Central American indigenous populations. To apply, check both the Chicana/o Studies and the Tamar Diana Wilson Fund boxes on the IAC application. The Research Grant Program is on a reimbursement basis only. Ordinarily, faculty projects will be funded for no more than $10,000 and graduate student projects for no more than $7,000. Funds for the purchase of permanent equipment will be provided only under exceptional circumstances. Conference travel, whether the applicant is presenting or attending, is ineligible. Eligibility UCLA faculty, staff, graduate students, and IAC postdoctoral fellows. Deadline Applications are available in October and must be received no later than 5:00 p.m., April 20, 2012. Awards will be announced by the third week in June. Application Form The first step in applying for IAC research support in ethnic studies is to contact the Ethnic Studies Research Center that you are interested in applying to. Due to budget constraints, it will vary from Center to Center as to the types of fellowships or research grants that they will offer so we strongly encourage that you contact the Center’s IAC Coordinator first. Once you have discussed your project with the Center’s IAC Coordinator, please complete the application form.
Applications and supplementary materials will be accepted via email as a PDF attachment or via mail to the IAC Coordinator at the Ethnic Studies Research Center most appropriate to the area of research. Grant Period July 1, 2012 through May 31, 2013. Grant recipients using human subjects will be required to submit her or his research proposal or exemption materials to the UCLA Institutional Review Board for approval. For those doing research on human subjects, funds will be available to grant recipients after completion of training and certification in the Protection of Human Research Subjects.
